KUWO Fellowship

What do a young person from Liberia whose future was stolen by war, poverty and abuse, a renowned international lawyer, global business executive, a member of Canadian Parliament, educator and diplomat have in common? More than you might think. The KUWO Fellowship for young leaders will bring together senior leaders from all sectors to tackle the biggest challenge facing Liberia - redeeming the future of the next generation. Going beyond taking action on pressing issues such as health and poverty, the KUWO Leadership Foundation knows that we need to cultivate and grow a new breed of civic leaders for today and tomorrow. To accomplish this, we are pleased to announce the launch of the KUWO Leadership Foundation scheduled for June 2020 to empower promising young leaders. In the words of 2011 Nobel Peace Laureate Leymah Gbowee, “leadership is standing with your people. People say you have to live to fight another day, but sometimes you have to show you are a true leader.” The KUWO Leadership Foundation is committed to doing just that – building the collective leadership capacity of the next generation of leaders in Liberia. Built on the belief that there is nothing more important to the future of our country than the preparation and voices of those who will lead us, the KUWO Leadership Foundation will provide high impact leadership programs that open doors, minds & opportunities for young, emerging and under-represented leaders in Liberia.

Entrepreneurship

Regardless of whether you are an entrepreneur or not, entrepreneurship training benefits people from all socioeconomic backgrounds because it teaches you to think outside the box and nurtures unconventional talents and skills. Furthermore, it creates opportunity, ensures social justice, instills confidence and stimulates wealth creation. You cannot be part of the future without the basic understanding of entrepreneurship.

Culture and Identity

As a generation that has been denied the opportunity to learn about the value of culture and its interconnectedness with identity, many young Liberians find themselves trying be everything and anything without an original sense of true belonging. Culture is the lifeblood of any society as expressed through stories, celebrations, understanding of the past, entertainment, and social norms. Understanding your culture is understanding yourself.

Politics and Advocacy

Been turned off by politics? Advocacy seems too dangerous and risky? Think again! Your life, aspirations and future may just end up being shaped by politics and advocacy either as a participant or a victim. in other words, it is impossible to escape both. Our societies are organized on these principles, whether it’s managing personal relationships, participation in our religious activities, voting in elections or running for office, your ability to thrive and be successful rest on politics.
